Sofa Snapping Intro

Plenty busy, but plenty bored with what's keeping me busy. Time for a new project! I'm not feeling ambitious enough to cook 500+ Julia Child recipes, so how about... 31 [creative] photos from my sofa. I'll call it something like, um... "Sofa Snapping - A Project I Can Do Lying Down." Please forgive me if it turns into "Sofa Napping" -Adding it to the "Crap-To-Do" list.

After viewing these early images in your project, it is understood why your uncle (FP) and my facebook friend directed me to your blog. Because of the conceptual nature of the project, I spent some time refreshing my memory concerning conceptual art. Wikipedia had a link to Douglas Huebler. One of the sentences read, "The basic idea behind conceptual art is that the ideas, the concepts behind the work is more important than the work and the execution of the work itself." I've put this here as encouragement for you keep in mind the intent of creating each day's image from the couch is more important than the image or how it came about.

The images you have created to this point are show evidence of your exploration, especially with viewpoints (the curtain) and moving away from revealing every detail (self portrait).

You're doing well, and I'm looking forward to viewing each day's image.

Thank you, Gerald!

I just noticed this comment from you. It's very encouraging. I will definitely keep in mind the intent of these images. It gets more and more difficult as I get annoyed at feeling "stuck" on the couch each night (nevermind the fact that I may have ended up there anyway after a long day at work). :-)

Ultimately my hope was to see every-day objects in a different way, and I felt that the best way to do that was to use the objects that I literally see every day. It's much more difficult to make them interesting, because I'm bored with them already.

Oddly enough, I don't think I really understood how that would affect my photos until even this week. What a strange, boring (and yet somehow exciting) journey I'm on... all from my sofa! And now that I'm slowly learning how to enhance these photos and make them more than just a vase or a clock - it's exciting to think of the possibilities beyond the sofa!

I've always loved photography, and I think this will help me add something different to my photos, some element of my personality, evidence of myself in them.

So much to think about! Your feedback is greatly appreciated!!

Sincerely,
Gretchin
